LaVar Ball has seemingly implied that he’s got another grandson or at least has one on the way, and it’s sparked rumors that his comments were about his youngest son, LaMelo Ball.
During a recent episode of Ball in the Family Podcast with Lonzo & Gelo Ball, LaVar discussed a variety of topics with hosts Lonzo Ball, LiAngelo Ball, Anthony Salazar, and Darren Moore.
"Gelo already got my number one pick," LaVarr said around the 42-minute point of the podcast, pointing to LiAngelo and seemingly referring to his infant grandson, LaVelo Anthony Ball. "And hey, I got another one, too. Called LaOne."
He didn’t elaborate further, but his sons smiled at the comment, perhaps indicating that their father said something he shouldn't have. "I'mma train them," he said. "If I raise you three killers in the backyard, what you think I’m going to do with the gym in the backyard? … They gonna start at four. But here’s the thing: I put the hoops down in the gym. They’ll go sideways and I’ll invite teams over there [aged] eight and nine to play my four and five year olds."
A clip of the moment has since spread online, leading to speculation that LaMelo is expecting or has already had a child with his longtime girlfriend, Ana Montana. LaMelo is famously tight-lipped about his private life, especially in comparison to his father and his brothers, but he's been romantically linked to Ana since at least 2021. They went official in 2023, and they don’t share anything about their relationship on social media.
LaVar has five confirmed grandchildren, but only one grandson. Lonzo has one daughter, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Denise Garcia. While LiAngelo has three children: a son, LaVelo, and a daughter, LaNiyah, with ex-girlfriend Nikki Mudarris, and a daughter with his ex-wife, Rashida Nicole.
LaMelo has not commented on what his father said on the podcast, and neither have his other two sons. It’s unclear if he let something slip or if he’s just hoping for another grandson in the future, but his use of the word "they" implies there’s more than one grandson he wants to train.
