World Championship Wrestling star Kevin Sullivan has passed away at age 74.

As confirmed by WWE in a post on its official website, the influential wrestling figure has died. The WCW tag team champion, who later transitioned into behind-the-scenes and promotion work in the world of wrestling, served as a rival to Dusty Rhodes, Hulk Hogan, and The Road Warriors among others.

Sullivan's family recently launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover his medical costs following what they described as a "devastating accident" during a visit to Florida in May. "He underwent emergency surgery that saved his leg and life but faced severe complications, including sepsis and encephalitis," read the fundraising campaign, which noted that Sullivan had been "in and out of consciousness in the ICU" following his accident.

WWE's chief content officer Triple H is among those to share a tribute to the late wrestler on social media. "Kevin Sullivan had one of the most unique minds in the history of our industry, pushing creative boundaries and developing some of the most intriguing characters to step into the ring," he wrote. "He had an unwavering passion for what we do. My thoughts are with his family, friends & fans."

Wrestling legend Ric Flair, who recently described Sullivan as one of his "closest friends in the business," also posted a tribute.

"I am so saddened to hear about Kevin Sullivan's passing," he wrote. "Rest in peace Kevin! You were an all time great athlete & friend."

WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry added, "Prayers out to the family! RIP!"

Raw general manager and former wrestler Adam Pearce also paid his respect alongside a photo of them together.

"Godspeed, Kevin Sullivan," he wrote. "Whether in front of or behind the camera, your contributions to our industry are without question. Grateful for the times we shared, your advice, and kindness. Honored to have gone into the @nwa HOF together. Rest well, sir."
