Jamal Crawford, who played 19 seasons in the NBA, has announced his retirement from basketball after turning 42 on Sunday.
“’Goodbye to the game, all the spoils and adrenaline rush,’” he wrote on Twitter, quoting Jay-Z’s “December 4th.” “Thank you basketball, I owe you everything … ✌🏾.”
Crawford was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2000, before being traded to the Chicago Bulls. He went on to play with the Knicks, the Warriors, and the Clippers among other teams. He was named NBA Sixth Man of the Year three times, and NBA Teammate of the Year in 2018. Crawford also made league history as the oldest player to score over 50 points at age 39 in 2019, beating out a record previously held by Michael Jordan.
Crawford, who has been vocal about his desire to get back to the NBA in recent years, played a single game for the Brooklyn Nets during the 2019-20 NBA season, and became the 29th player in the league’s history to play at the age of 40.
With his playing days behind him, Crawford began covering games for NBA League Pass last year, and will continue in that role moving forward.
He finishes his NBA career with averages of 14.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists across 1,327 total games.
