Watch the First Trailer for Giannis Antetokounmpo Biopic 'Rise' From Disney+

Disney has shared the first trailer for 'Rise,' the biographical sports drama about the ascent of Giannis Antetokounmpo and his two brothers.

Disney has shared the first trailer for Rise, the biographical sports drama the ascent of Giannis Antetokounmpo and his two brothers, Kostas and Thanasis.

The trailer for the movie, which debuts on Disney+ next month, tells the story of the hardship the Antetokounmpo family faced after emigrating from Nigeria to Greece. Even though they faced the almost constant threat of deportation in Greece, the brothers became the first trio of siblings to all win an NBA championship when the Milwaukee Bucks won the Finals last year.

Giannis serves as an executive producer on the project, which is directed by Akin Omotso.

“I am thrilled and honored that Disney+ is bringing my family's story to people all over the world," said the two-time NBA MVP in a statement. "My hope is that it will inspire those in similar circumstances to keep the faith, stay true to their goals and not to give up on striving for a better life."

Newcomer Uche Agada portrays Giannis in the film, while the rest of the cast is rounded out by Ral Agada as Thanasis, Dayo Okeniyi as their father Charles, and Yetide Badaki as their mother Veronika.

Giannis was selected as a first-round pick by the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2013 NBA draft, and in the years since he’s proved to be one of the best players in the world.
