Former NFL star Adrian Peterson has been arrested on charges of driving while under the influence and weapon possession, TMZ reports.
As shown in Fort Bend County, Texas jail records, Peterson was arrested on Sunday (Oct. 26) on one charge of driving while under the influence and one charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon. Peterson, who hasn’t played for an NFL team since 2021, was arrested in Sugar Land at approximately 10 a.m. local time, per TMZ.
This isn’t the first time Peterson has been arrested this year. As reported by TMZ in April, the 2012 NFL MVP was pulled over by authorities in Minnesota after he was caught speeding, going 83 in a 55 MPH zone. The officer who pulled him over made him take a breathalyzer test, and he blew a .14. The legal limit in the state of Minnesota is .08. He was booked on a fourth-degree driving while under the influence charge but was later released. He had attended the Minnesota Vikings 2025 Draft Day celebrations in the U.S. Bank Stadium earlier that night.
Peterson has been plagued by legal issues both during and after his time in the NFL. He was indicted on a charge of reckless or negligent injury to a child in 2014 after he allegedly struck his then four-year-old son. He pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charge later that year and was exempt from playing for the remainder of the NFL season.
He was also ordered to repay a Minnesota bank in 2018 after he defaulted on a loan, and was ordered to pay $8.3 million in 2021 after failing to make the full repayment. Last year, court records showed that he hadn’t paid any of the money owed and many of his assets were put up for sale, including his NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year trophy. More recently, he was arrested for domestic violence following a flight from Los Angeles to Houston in 2022. The charges were ultimately dropped, and his wife, Ashley, denied that he struck her.
