Floyd Mayweather is already backing away from that promised Manny Pacquaio rematch.

The undefeated boxer said just last month that he planned to come out of retirement to fight Pacquiao, who he last faced in 2015.

“I'm coming back to fight Manny Pacquiao this year, another nine-figure payday on the way,” he told TMZ then.

While sources close to the fighter said Floyd was "deadly serious" about a rematch, Mayweather now says the fight is off. He said that he believes a fight between Pacquaio and Adrien Broner is a better idea. The 41-year-old boxer told TMZ that he wants to give a Pacquaio rematch time to build anticipation.

"We not going to make that happen right now," he said. "Not right now. We must take that fight and let that fight build. And then, down the line, let that fight happen."

Mayweather currently has his sights set on Khabib Nurmagomedov. After the fight between the Dagestani fighter and notorious UFC loudmouth Conor McGregor ended in a brawl on the arena floor, Mayweather wanted to test himself against the MMA champion.

All of these callouts aren't just moving in one direction. Boxers are looking to fight Floyd, as well. After signing a deal worth $365 million, Canelo Alvarez challenged Mayweather to a rematch.

Mayweather responded on Instagram, calling Alvarez a cheater and saying that his win over the Mexican boxer was the easiest of his entire career.

"It didn’t matter if Canelo ate his PED steak or not this night, this was by far the easiest fight of my career!" he wrote. "Connor McQuitter was a way better fighter than Canelo's cheating ass, and I beat the brakes off him too!"
