West Wilson and Joy Taylor Unpack Their Personalities in Latest ‘West Date Ever’

Wilson and Taylor got deep when they had a chance to talk about people pleasing, marriage, and parenting.

Things got pretty deep between Joy Taylor and West Wilson when the two linked up for a first date.

On the latest episode of Complex’s West Date Ever, the 37-year-old sports journalist hit the race track for a little competition.

It was Wilson’s idea to ride go-karts after hearing that Taylor said she’s “not a big activity girl” and wouldn’t want to ride go-karts for a first date on an episode of the Two Personal podcast she co-hosts with Taylor Rooks.

After getting their adrenaline rush, their date took a more introspective turn when Taylor asked if Wilson is a “slow pill” or “reactionary?” at the 9:30 mark in the video above.

“I'm to a fault so equal,” Wilson admits. “Actually, we're unpacking family trauma right now. My parents think I try too hard to keep like everyone happy all at once.”

He explained that his mother, an OBGYN, gave birth to him after med school and wasn’t around until he was four or five years old. With just his “very emotional” father around raising a kid for the first time, Wilson revealed he tried to protect himself by keeping his dad calm before saying he’s not confrontational at all.

“I am the opposite of a people pleaser,” Taylor said. “I'm not gonna inconvenience myself for someone else's situation in the way that it harms.”

When asked if people lack depth, Taylor said, “I don't think it's about depth, I think that it's about vulnerability. So there is this lack of working through things.”

As far as marriage is concerned, Wilson says he has a vision for his chapter of fatherhood but doesn’t see it happening anytime soon.

“I picture kids, wife, all the dad shit, you know? Coaching football and shit. But in this moment in time, I don't want that at all,” he said.

On the other hand, Taylor admits that she doesn’t want children due to her experience with having “a bad parent” and sees the role as a very serious responsibility.

“But then would that be a deal breaker?” Wilson asked.

“I don't believe that's something you should compromise on. It's not like not buying a Corvette,” Taylor responded, shortly before Wilson jokingly asked if all of her dates become therapy sessions.

Towards the end of the episode where Wilson asks his dates to “hard launch” by posting a photo from their date on social media, Taylor pointed to their earlier conversation about compromising.

“This is a huge compromise for me because I will never be in another public relationship,” she said.

“Don’t you feel like that's impossible to avoid though?” Wilson asked.

“No, you don't have to post anything ever,” Taylor noted. “Also, it's annoying as fuck. Why the fuck do I give a fuck what Ted4567 thinks about my boyfriend's head?”
