Per OddsShark, the Toronto Raptors are now tied with the Spurs in having the best odds to have Kawhi on their roster next season. The 76ers, who many believe are firmly in contention, have fallen all the way to fifth.
So, why the surge for Toronto? It seems to have come from two recent stories. The Washington Post reported Monday that the Raptors had entered the Kawhi picture. "The Toronto Raptors also generated buzz as a potential destination for Leonard," Tim Bontemps writes. "With LeBron James out of the Eastern Conference, perhaps Raptors President of Basketball Operations Masai Ujiri is willing to swing for the fences and move DeMar DeRozan or Kyle Lowry in such a deal."
Additionally, ESPN's Brian Windhorst appeared on 590 the Fan Wednesday and said he has heard murmurs around the league that the Raptors are well positioned to make a deal for Kawhi.
The Raptors recently shook up their leadership by firing Dwane Casey and replacing him with Nick Nurse.
The Lakers' odds have dropped since they landed LeBron James, as reports have indicated Kawhi isn't all that interested in joining a super-team. That transaction may have increased his interest in their cross-town rivals, the Clippers.
