Attending the biggest annual American sporting event will cost you a pretty penny. You don't attend a Super Bowl unless you're a big fan of one of the teams, you've been planning the trip for a long time, or you're a true baller. But if you wanted to attend this year's matchup in Minnesota, attending the game would've cost you even more than usual.
As ESPN's Business Reporter Darren Rovell reported Sunday night, the average ticket price for this game—sold via the retailer Vivid Seats—was $4,984.
The 2016 Carolina Panthers versus Denver Broncos Super Bowl, which took place at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., was the next-most-expensive game from the past seven years. Tickets to that game cost $4,417.
Last year's Super Bowl, between the Patriots and Atlanta Falcons in Houston, Texas, was relatively affordable. Tickets to that game would run you $4,062.
One person who didn't make the trip to the Super Bowl? Rapper and Pennsylvania native Lil Dicky, who said he turned down tickets to instead party in Philadelphia.
Though the price of tickets to this year's game ran quite high, it could have run higher—and likely would have if the Minnesota Vikings had defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. The Vikings came this close to playing a Super Bowl at home.
