Police Pull Up to Kansas Basketball Dorm Because a Man Wanted to Give 'Free Throw Advice'

The Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball team is having a very good year, as per usual. The Jayhawks, with a 16-4 record, are tied for first in the Big 12. Though Trae Young and the Oklahoma Sooners won a hard-fought 85-80 game between the teams Tuesday night, Kansas, under the guidance of longtime coach Bill Self, has a shot at making a deep tournament run.

If Kansas has struggled in one area in particular, it's free throw shooting. The Jayhawks are eighth in the Big 12 at a clip of 70 percent.

They struggled in the Oklahoma game, going 6 for 14, which made a big difference down the stretch. The Sooners intentionally fouled Kansas' sophomore center from Nigeria, Udoka Azubuike, who shot just 1 for 7. He is shooting just 38 percent from the charity stripe for the season, to which every coach responds, "They're called free for a reason."

Fans in Lawrence are deeply passionate about their team—perhaps sometimes even a little bit too passionate. As the Lawrence Journal-World details, Kansas University Police were called to the men's basketball team's dorm, McCarthy Hall, after a man showed up "wanting to give free throw advice."

A call about the man came in at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. By the time the cops showed up, the man—who, it was identified, was not a KU student—had left. Police did not plan to file a criminal report.

According to reporter Sara Shepherd, the man had been at the dorm multiple times that day before police were called.
