Lou Williams Is Staying With the Clippers After All

The Clippers have reportedly agreed to an extension with Lou Williams.

Lou Williams has consistently been one of the NBA's best offensive two guards over the past four years. He won one Sixth Man of the Year Award (in 2015, with the Raptors) and nearly garnered another (in 2017, with the Rockets). Though he no longer has two girls who get along, Lou Will commands the respect of his peers.

Seemingly every "trade rumors" piece recently has mentioned Williams' name. The Clippers just offloaded Blake Griffin's contract, and people have speculated that Steve Ballmer and company are gearing up for a full rebuild, which would involve trading DeAndre Jordan, Lou Will, or both.

Forget that speculation. As The Vertical's Shams Charania has reported, the Clippers are sticking with Lou Will. They've signed the 6-foot-1 31-year-old to a three-year extension.

As Charania's report states, the two parties finalized the terms of the deal over the past week. Williams is currently in the final year of a three-year, $21 million deal he signed back in the day with the Lakers.

Charania reported Williams' new terms with the Clippers: three years, $24 million.

Williams has flourished in Los Angeles. In his first season with the Clippers, he is averaging career bests of 23.3 points and 5.3 assists per game. Though there were many worthy candidates in the Western Conference, it's a shame he wasn't named to the All-Star Team.

Charania's report states the Clippers are still shopping Jordan as well as the scrappy guard Avery Bradley, whom the Clippers just acquired in the Griffin trade. The Clippers are currently No. 9 in the West at 27-25.

The Griffin trade was a bit surprising because the power forward had just agreed to a new deal with Los Angeles this past summer and because the Clippers' roster of misfits had fit together quite nicely early this year.
