TV Station Barred From Recording Football Game Uses Stick Figures to Tell The Story

WLKY got creative when they were barred from recording the Louisville football spring game.

Few things get sports fans quite as fired up as college spring football games—nothing like a meaningless game five months before most fans are ready for football.

Considering no one gets excited about spring football in the first place, it really doesn’t make sense that college athletic departments insist on media blackouts. What are you trying to hide? Why not let fans who can’t make the game at least get a glimpse of the team? The blackouts just create headaches for journalists.

Such was the plight of Louisville local news station WLKY this weekend. The Louisville athletic department barred recording of any parts of the game, so the station’s sports team had to improvise. They did so brilliantly, incorporating “artist renderings”—masterful drawings, for sure—of the game.

The newscasters, Dan Koob and Natalie Grise, deserve props for their creativity and striking artistic abilities.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson was the star of the day. He completed 19 of 32 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns.
