Could this be the end of Knicks sensation Kristaps Porzingis' rookie year? With only six games remaining, Porzingis was sidelined due to a strained right shoulder for tonight’s Knicks game against Brooklyn.

Knicks interim coach Kurt Rambis, who took over when Derek Fisher was fired in February, said the Latvian forward is “day to day,” and said he and the medical staff would not want to play Porzingis if it meant risking further injury down the road. He said it would be “ridiculous” for the Knicks to play the rookie if he weren’t sufficiently healthy.

The dynamic, 7-foot-3 forward was drafted fourth overall by the Knicks in last year’s draft. Though he was booed on draft day, he has emerged as one of the best rookies in the league, averaging 14.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game while posting a 17.87 Player Efficiency Rating (PER).

Last Wednesday, in a win over Chicago, Porzingis went off for 29 points and 10 boards.
