Jordan Brand is getting ahead of next year's 40th-anniversary celebration of the Air Jordan line by dropping a new ad in the waning days of 2024.

Michael Jordan's namesake brand just released a two-minute video campaign dubbed "Origin Story" that breaks down the history of the Air Jordan 1 and the shoe's large influence decades after its introduction in 1985. As the story goes, the NBA barred Jordan from wearing the black and red Air Jordan 1 in '85 as the colorway violated the league's uniform rules. Additionally, a $5,000 fine was issued to Jordan every time he wore the shoe, which was then paid for by Nike.

As the years went on, sneaker historians have debunked the myth that the Air Jordan 1 was banned by revealing that it was actually a black and red Nike Air Ship that broke the NBA's uniform rules. Jordan Brand has recently acknowledged the true history of Jordan's banned sneakers with a limited rerelease of the OG-styled black and red Air Ship in 2020.
