A Man Is Accused of Killing His Younger Brother Over Sneakers

An 18-year-old Illinois man is accused of killing his younger brother over a dozen pairs of sneakers.

Sadly, it seems like not much has changed since Sports Illustrated's infamous May 1990 cover pictured above.

The State Journal-Register is reporting that a Springfield, Ill. man named Juan Kincade is standing trial for a heartbreaking murder over sneakers. According to police, the 18-year-old Kincade fatally shot his younger brother, 17-year-old Juwan Kincade, inside the home they shared last Thursday and proceeded to steal cash and a dozen pairs of sneakers.

The stolen goods have been valued at more than $500, but regardless of the monetary value, this is one of the most tragic stories of sneaker violence we've heard. Now, the elder Kincade could face up to 60 years in prison for the murder, with the possibility of an additional sentence of 25 to life due to the use of a firearm.

An Illinois State Attorney has recommended a $2 million bond for Kincade due to his criminal history and the fact he is on parole. Next, Kincade will have a preliminary hearing on August 20.

It doesn't get much worse than this.
