Converse is making the most of its Nike ties with a new friends and family sneaker that pays tribute to Michael Jordan and the North Carolina Tar Heel's 1982 National Championship win.

The model in question is the Pro Leather, the same sneaker worn by Jordan during the championship game against the Georgetown Hoyas. This special-edition iteration was designed by Tinker Hatfield and Dan Sunwoo, the duo that were also responsible for the "Seoul" Air Jordan 3.

In place of the Pro Leather's traditional Star Chevron logo, this "Birth of Michael Jordan" colorway is plastered with a Carolina blue Jumpman. “MJ was wearing the Converse Pro Leather in the 1982 Championship. He is often quoted as saying he felt he became Michael Jordan in that moment. To signify the birth of MJ, I had the Converse logo fade out and the Jumpman appear," Hatfield said.

To bring the look full circle, Hatfield and Sunwoo also honored the Tar Heels' 2017 championship win with the team's argyle pattern appearing at the heel.

Fans will need some serious connections to get their hands on this pair, as it will be gifted to the current UNC men's basketball roster and Jordan Brand friends and family.
