Last week, we wrote a story about how a pair of Michael Jordan's game-worn sneakers from his rookie season that was up for auction came into possession of a former NBA ball boy.
Well, the auction is over and depending on how you perceive things, one "lucky" person is now the proud owner of Jordan's Nike Air Ship with a winning bid of $71,554. Undoubtedly one of the greatest pieces of basketball and sneaker history, many might view these as a priceless collectible worthy of a spot in the NBA Hall of Fame. I wonder how the person that finished second is feeling today knowing he just missed out on owning this pair. At least he still has $71K to help deal with the disappointment.
You probably won't get much of an argument from anyone, but at $71K, the term "priceless" suddenly becomes a bit more flexible. I think most would be in agreement that Khalid Ali - the ball boy who was given this pair by MJ - made a wise decision in selling these certified gems. Not sure if the same can be said for the fan that supposedly turned down $98K for a pair of Kanye signed Nike Yeezy 2 "Red Octobers" a few months back.
