Continuing to expand its lifestyle category, a new Nike model has surfaced that takes cues from both new and old silhouettes from the brand's archive. Thanks to @J23app on Twitter, there is now an initial look at this new sneaker, dubbed the Moon Racer.
The upper's overall look appears to resemble the Nike Moon Shoe, a prototype of the Nike Waffle Trainer. It is constructed mostly of mesh with suede overlays on the toe, heel, and side panel. Leather is used on the Swoosh and leather flap that rests over the heel. The retro-inspired upper sits atop a modern midsole similar to 2018's Vapor Street Flyknit model. While nothing is confirmed yet, this could mean that the Moon Racer may feature React cushioning as well.
Two colorways have been revealed of the upcoming silhouette. One sports a tan upper, olive green Swoosh, and volt hits on the midsole. The other features a black upper, white Swoosh, and Air Jordan IV-esque cement print on the midsole. There is currently no word on an official release date or pricing.
UPDATE (07/18): Nike shares more details on the Moon Racer, which will drop on SNKRS in both "Black/White/Wolf Grey" and "Black/Sail/Volt" colorways on Thursday, August 2 for $150. As expected, the sneakers feature React cushioning and take inspiration from the vintage Nike Moon Shoe from 1972.
