World-renowned chef and on-air personality Eddie Huang has gotten a jump on 2019 by providing a first look at an upcoming Ultra Boost collaboration that might be tied to next year's Chinese New Year celebration.
The pair features the traditional colors of Chinese New Year, and includes a red Primeknit upper, tonal suede overlays on the toe and tongue, a leather heel cup, and leather Three Stripes cage. Yellow accents come in the form of Chinese characters on the lateral heel and a panda head stamped on the tongue that could be a callback to Huang's Human Panda nickname. Metallic gold lace tips give the pair a premium touch and set it apart from standard Ultra Boost releases.
Release details are unavailable at the moment, but based on Huang's "CNY2019" and "YearOfThePanda" hashtags, it could by tied to the timeframe of the Chinese New Year, which begins on Feb. 5 in 2019.
UPDATE (02/01): New images of the upcoming Eddie Huang x Adidas Ultra Boost have surfaced, courtesy of @JustFreshKicks on Twitter. The pair is rumored to be releasing on Feb. 7. Huang also took to Instagram today to announce the shoes will be dropping to help commemorate the barbecue he is holding to celebrate Chinese New Year.
UPDATE (02/04): Adidas has officially announced Eddie Huang's Ultra Boost collaboration celebrating Chinese New Year. A red Primeknit upper features tonal leather overlays on the toe and heel, a leather Three Stripes cage, suede hit on the tongue, and gold accents. Other special details include Chinee Boyz BBQ branding on the insole and a non-slip sole perfect for use in the kitchen as a nod to Huang's culinary background.
The Eddie Huang x Adidas Ultra Boost will be revealed exclusively at the Chinee Boyz BBQ celebration in Downtown Los Angeles on Feb. 5 before releasing via adidas.com and other select retailers on Feb. 7 for $200.
UPDATE (02/07): E-commerce app NTWRK will be launching the Eddie Huang x Adidas Ultra Boost on Feb. 7. The drop will take place through the NTWRK app in conjunction with special programming following The Human Panda as he prepares for his Chinese New Year celebration, the Chinee Boyz BBQ. The episode is scheduled to air via the NTWRK app tonight at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. PST. Pairs will retail at $200 each.
