Over the course of the last year, Adidas has created custom versions of its Speedfactory AM4 for major cities around the world, professional teams celebrating a championship, and even special events in the world of sports. Now, it has crafted a new version of the runner for tennis legend Billie Jean King to mark the beginning of the 2018 US Open in Flushing Meadows.
The Speedfactory AM4BJK's blue upper is inspired by the footwear King wore for her "Battle of the Sexes" match in the Houston Astrodome against Bobby Riggs 45 years ago. The style is completed with white Three Stripes branding and King's initials etched on the heel.
"It’s an honor to have these iconic blue shoes modernized and they will serve as the perfect visual reminder of the importance that we must work together to achieve equality for all, on and off the field of play," said King in a press release.
Billie Jean King's Adidas Speedfactory AM4 will receive a limited release on Monday, Aug. 27 via adidas.com, the US Open store, and select Adidas retailers for $200. Only 300 pairs have been produced.
