After a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, turned deadly on Saturday, one sportswear brand has taken to social media to condemn the ideas of the alt-right protestors that gathered there. Under Armour posted a statement from CEO Kevin Plank on Twitter.
"We are saddened by #Charlottesville," the message reads. "There is no place for racism or discrimination in this world. We choose love & unity."
Plank has faced much criticism in 2017 for remarks made in support of President Trump. The CEO's statement on the violence in Charlottesville is notable in that it's more explicit than Trump's, which placed blame for the weekend's chaos on "many sides."
Plank has distanced himself from Trump in recent months, writing a letter on the controversy over his comments about the president and publicly criticizing the administration's Paris climate accord decision. Still, he serves on Trump's manufacturing council, as was pointed out by the many Twitter users who replied to Under Armour's statement on Monday morning.
