Nike's Breaking2 event, the brand's attempt at breaking the two-hour marathon barrier, will have an effect on future retail runner offerings via trickle down pairs. So while the Nike Zoom VaporFly Elite worn by runners during the attempt isn't releasing, spin-off shoes are.

The latest announced is this NikeLab version of the Zoom Fly, a model that uses the VaporFly Elite's same approach of embedding a plate in foam cushioning. But, where the VaporFly Elite race shoe had a carbon fiber plate surrounded by ZoomX foam, this design uses a carbon-infused nylon plate housed in Lunarlon.

This take on the sneaker references Nike's process in creating the Breaking2 footwear, with design sketches on the insoles and exposed details alluding to the prototyping stages.

The NikeLab Zoom Fly SP will release on June 8, as will the standard version of the Zoom Fly.

While none of Nike's runners logged a sub-two-hour marathon at the Breaking2 race in May, runner Eliud Kipchoge completed the fastest marathon ever there with a time of 2:00:25. His time did not count as an official world record as some of Nike's efforts to streamline the race made it ineligible.
