What once was a promising partnership between adidas and Robert Griffin III is at a crossroads. The brand has invested a lot in the star quarterback, but an unfortunate string of injuries has somewhat derailed his career. It's a make-or-break year for Griffin on the field, and the same could be said for his relationship with adidas, who launched his first signature training sneaker last summer. With the setbacks, the RG3 Energy Boost didn't seem to take off quite the way adidas had hoped — but there may be a shot at redemption.
The RG3 Energy Boost 2 sample recently popped up on eBay, dressed in the colors of the home team. This likely incomplete version of the trainer features a burgundy synthetic upper that makes use of adidas' elastic EnergySling technology. Personalized elements include RG3's logo on the tongue, his "Faith. Family. Football" mantra on the backside of the tongue and a replica of his signature on the heel. A boot-style lacing system and leather interior give this shoe more of an off-field aesthetic, but Boost cushioning helps it maintain performance appeal.
Strangely, it's mid-August and there hasn't been a peep from adidas about the RG3 Boost 2 actually releasing. The first model launched last July, so the status of the sequel is up in the air. However, this sample size 9 can be purchased on eBay today.
