This Weekend's Essential Sneaker Drops: Week Of May 14 2016

Rainbow Flyknit Racers are back!

It’s Friday The 13th this week, but you don’t have to worry about outrunning Jason Vorhees with this week’s sneaker drops. Start off strong with Nike giving the people what they want with some Michigan and UNLV flavoured Dunks. Look to pick up some runners from Nike and Saucony that’ll have you looking like Future just pissed all over your feet after a particularly heavy night on the dirty. Or you could just buy Chi-town inspired Jordans. Whatever your flavor, this week’s got you locked.

Nike Air Jordan X “Chicago”

The next stop on the Air Jordan X world tour is the Windy City, where MJ carved his name into history. Not to be confused with the other Chicago-themed Air Jordan X releases over the years, this edition comes with a white tumbled leather upper with bright crimson accents on the midsole and light blue on the lace loops. As with all of the 2016 City Series AJXs, there is city-specific branding on the ankle to give it a unique flavour from the regular Jordans. Releasing in both mens and GS sizing, this should be a popular drop for the Jordan collectors out there.

Premier Skate x Saucony Originals Grid 9000 ‘Sweets’

Another tasty collaboration from Saucony and Michigan retailer Premier is set to drop this weekend with some pop style. Even though Premier is known primarily as a skate shop, their previous collaboration with Saucony – the red-earth toned ‘Life On Mars’ pack – was an absolute stunner of a shoe. Proving that the first time around wasn’t a fluke, Premier have dipped the Grid 9000 silhouette into the pastel-hued world of confectionery for this drop. Featuring beautiful blue and orange suedes on the upper, perforated toebox and a candy-striped inner lining, these sweets definitely ain't child's play.

Nike Dunk Retro QS ‘Be True’ (Michigan and UNLV)

Shoutout to Nike for bringing back two OG colourways from the Be True To Your School series, representing a pair of the greatest NCAA teams ever assembled. Michigan and UNLV set the tone for basketball/athletic fashion for the next decade, with star players Jalen Rose, Chris Webber and Larry Johnson all sagging their shorts while dunking all over the nation. Even though both programs have tapered off their performances as of late, true hoops junkies will never forget their runs in the 90s, as both look to always strive and prosper. Let it bang this Thursday and run to your nearest Foot Locker for the drop.

Nike Flyknit Racer ”Multicolour 3.0”

Quite possibly the unofficial flagship colourway for the popular Flyknit Racer, the Multicolour aka Rainbow returns for the third time. Although originally this colourway began life as an ultra-exclusive vivid dream HTM model, a general release version without HTM branding made it to stores (and eventually outlets, back when we had it good) in 2013. Now it returns with a grey tongue, and while some may say that’s one too many re-releases, most of the collectors are just eager to stock up one of the most influential shoes in recent history. This has already seen a release in-store at most major Nike stores in Australia, so this might be your last chance to cop these. Be prepared!
