Courteney Cox and Snow Patrol guitarist Johnny McDaid have reportedly ended their relationship after more than a decade together.

People confirmed news of the split after it was first reported by the Mail on Sunday, who heard from a friend of the couple that it "was not an ugly split." Apparently they had "simply reached a point where they were living different lives."

A second friend offered a warmer take: "Johnny speaks incredibly highly of Courteney. They had a very deep relationship and they remain extremely amicable. They are great friends and care about each other very much."

Cox, known for her role as Monica Geller on Friends, and McDaid, who joined Snow Patrol in 2011 and co-wrote Ed Sheeran hits including "Shape of You" and "Photograph," first met in late 2013 at a star-studded party hosted by Cox.

"I remember seeing Johnny and going, 'Oh, wow. He's really intense.' He's got those eyes, and he's playing the piano," Cox recalled during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show in 2022. “And I thought 'Oh, he's really, really handsome.'"

The relationship moved quickly. McDaid proposed nine months in at Cox's 50th birthday party, held at Jennifer Aniston's house, first asking Cox's daughter Coco for her blessing. The engagement was called off in late 2015, with the pair later reconciling in 2016, though they did not get re-engaged.

Cox spoke candidly about their 2015 split on an episode of Minnie Driver's Minnie Questions podcast. "We broke up in therapy," she explained. "I didn't know it was coming ... He just broke up within the first minute. And I was like, what? We were engaged, and I was so shocked. I was in so much pain."

She ultimately came to value that painful chapter, adding: "I'm so thankful for that breakup because when we got back together it was a different relationship."

As recently as July 2025, Cox posted a birthday tribute to McDaid on Instagram, writing: "Happy birthday to the man who can do most anything. I love you always J." That post has since been deleted. The two were last spotted publicly together at the US Open in September 2025.

According to the Mail on Sunday, McDaid is reportedly in the early stages of a new relationship. He is currently on the road with Snow Patrol for a summer tour across the UK and Europe.
