'Zombieland 2' Is Happening With Original Cast Set to Return

The characters of "Zombieland" will be coming back to the big screen as it was confirmed a sequel to the 2009 film is on the way with Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin are set to return.

Get your twinkies ready. Zombieland 2 is officially happening with basically all of the original cast.

The Hollywood Reporter saysEmma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin have all signed on to be in the follow-up to the 2009 film. They won't be the only ones coming back, though. Ruben Fleischer, who directedZombieland and upcoming Tom Hardy–starring Venom, will also return for Zombieland 2. Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the scribes behind Zombieland and the Deadpool movies, will also write the sequel.

"This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time—and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse, and Abigail," said Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch in a statement. "These are some of the most in-demand actors and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters. We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly amazing."

The original film's budget of $24 million is expected to rise for the sequel because special effects have gotten better and the actors have all reached new levels of fame: Harrelson got a popularity boost after he starred in True Detective in addition to other big-budget films like War for the Planet of the Apes and Solo: A Star Wars Story; Stone won a Best Actress Oscar for her performance in 2016’s La La Land; Eisenberg went on to star in major films like The Social Network and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice; and Breslin found fame in TV on Scream Queens and as Baby in the 2017 Dirty Dancing remake.
