Margot Robbie is in talks to play the Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino's upcoming film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Deadline reported the news on Tuesday following a previous report that Robbie and Tarantino had a conversation about her playing the late actress back in July.
If it happens, this will be the first time Robbie works with the famed director. She'll also be reuniting with her Wolf of Wall Street movie-husband Leonardo DiCaprio. Although Robbie had a short cameo in Brad Pitt's The Big Short, this will be the first time that the two are leading a film together as well.
As Deadline notes, the film will be similar to Tarantino's cult classic Pulp Fiction, as its set in 1969 Los Angeles, aka "the height of hippy Hollywood." This is also the time that Charles Manson sent his followers on a killing spree which included the pregnant Tate along with others in her house at the time.
DiCaprio will play Rick Dalton, a fictional fading Western TV star, while Pitt will play Cliff Booth, Dalton's "longtime stunt double," according to Deadline. "Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognize anymore," explains the site. "In the film Tate is Rick’s very famous next door neighbor."
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is slated to premiere on Aug. 9, 2019, one day after the 50th anniversary of the tragic event which happened on the night of Aug. 8, 1969.
