Democratic NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani posted his thoughts about Andrew Cuomo’s phone call that appeared to drop mid-interview on Hot 97.
Mamdani shared his thoughts on X, writing, “Andrew Cuomo picks up the phone to call Donald Trump, and hangs up when he‘s asked about it,” he wrote.
Mamdani’s post came as a response to Cuomo’s appearance on Ebro in the Morning on Hot 97 when the latter was being interviewed about President Donald Trump supporting him to be mayor of New York City.
During the conversation, Ebro Darden brought up the president by saying, “Your boy was just on 60 Minutes, Cuomo, saying that you’re his guy.”
Cuomo responded with “No, first of—” before there was complete silence. Darden continued saying, “Trump said you’re his candidate! If he had to pick a bad democrat… or a communist, he’s picking you.”
After seven seconds had passed without any response from Cuomo, the radio hosts assumed that he had hung up.
Politico reported that the moment was deleted from the Hot 97 YouTube page and the audio was stripped from the show’s episode on Spotify.
According to Cuomo’s PR team, the cause of the call ending was simply due to a bad connection.
In a Nov. 2 interview with 60 Minutes on CBS, President Trump called Cuomo a “bad democrat” but believes he’s a better alternative than Mamdani.
On social media, Trump practically threatened NYC voters to support Cuomo, writing, “If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home.”
“Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice,” he added. “You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!”
