A 21-year-old cheerleader at the University of Kentucky has been arrested and accused of hiding a dead baby inside of a closet.

According to a statement from the city of Lexington, Laken Snelling was arrested on Aug. 31 and charged with Abuse of a Corpse, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Concealing the Birth of an Infant.

Police originally responded to a report that there was a deceased infant in a closet on Aug. 27. “Infant was located in a towel inside of a black trash bag,” reads a citation from the situation.

Snelling agreed to be interviewed by officers, and she told them that she had given birth and tried to conceal the evidence of the birth.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office is currently investigating the cause of death for the infant.

Snelling was released on a $100,000 bond on Sept. 2. and has been placed on house arrest in Jefferson City, Tennessee.

Snelling has been a member of Kentucky’s “STUNT” team, which is a part of the school’s cheerleading program, for three years.

In a TikTok post from June, Snelling posted an emoji of a woman holding a baby as one of her “goals.”
