Timothée Chalamet made the decision to get spanked by a real ping-pong paddle in Marty Supreme because he didn’t want another person’s booty to get all the shine.

In an interview with Variety, Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary spoke about his acting debut in Marty Supreme in a role where he plays a successful pen entrepreneur who humiliates Chalemet’s Marty Mauser by spanking him with a paddle.

“When it came time to whack him, there was a stunt ass. There was a double,” O’Leary said. “[Chalamet] wouldn’t do it. He said he’ll do it himself. He didn’t want some other ass immortalized.”

O’Leary revealed that he was supposed to spank Chalamet with a fake paddle initially, but the prop broke after the first hit, thus requiring him to use a real one. Director Josh Safdie demanded around 40 takes of the spanking, with O’Leary saying that shooting the scene “went on for hours.”

“Josh was saying, ‘You’ve got to wind up harder,'” O’Leary remembers. “I was really whacking him.”

Marty Supreme came out on Christmas. It’s already become A24’s second-biggest opening weekend so far, with $28.5 million earned at the box office.

Tyler, the Creator, who appears in the movie, reflected on being a part of it on Instagram shortly after it came out. "MARTY SUPREME IN THEATERS NOW, GLUE YOUR EYES OPEN," began Tyler's caption on Instagram. "what a time. thank you thank you josh," he continued. "started shooting this movie same week CHROMAKOPIA came out. what a blast. i love jumping head first into something new."

"not being good not being bad just raw newness," Tyler added. "go see it on the big screen, dont save this watch for a couch and phone distractions, go outside. big love to the whole team shit big silly. wally"
