Three decades after its original release, Mobile Suite Gundam Wing is getting a brand-new anime production.

Oricon reports that the new production for what is widely considered to be one of the best installments in the Gundam Franchise was finally revealed during the Gundam Conference SPRING 2026 livestream event.

Though it was confirmed that a new project is in active development, the exact format or a release window wasn’t revealed. However, Bandai Namco Filmworks director and longtime Gundam executive producer Naohiro Ogata clarified that the project is “definitely something long.”

The news about the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam Wing production comes after the series marked its 30th anniversary in 2025. As part of the celebration, the movie Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz-Special Edition received a 4K theatrical screening in the United States.

Months later, a new Mobile Suit Gundam Wing manga series was released in Japan in August, and that came with several merchandise releases and collabs.

In related Gundam news unveiled at the conference, the 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam anime is also getting a full remaster, with that project slated to arrive in 2029.

Separately, the theatrical film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO was also confirmed at the same event, with a teaser trailer released alongside the announcement. It will serve as a prequel to and a follow-up of 2024's Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM.

Gundam continues to be an extremely successful franchise as it builds towards its 50th anniversary in 2029. From successfully diving into the worlds of merchandise, real-world attractions, video games, and even music, the franchise’s model kit shipments have sold more than 800 million cumulative units around the world. Its Gundam Card Game has distributed over 630 million cards.

Currently, Gundam is Bandai Namco’s highest-earning intellectual property.
