A 20-year-old suspect in a South Carolina homicide case has turned himself in and is preparing to file a lawsuit over the charges, revealing a unique reason why he alleges he is innocent.

Zaquan Shaquez Jamison is in custody after calling the Charleston County dispatch on Aug. 15, explaining that he wanted to turn himself in for an Orangeburg County Case. He was soon after taken into custody on warrants for murder, several counts of attempted murder, and possession of a weapon while committing a violent crime.

Jamison has been accused of fatally shooting 17-year-old Ja’Mereion “Mari” Deangelo Crawford at a home on Jan. 13. If convicted, he faces the possibility of a life sentence for the murder.

During his arraignment in court, Jamison suggested that his parents will file a lawsuit because he’s a “burn victim.” Additionally, he claimed that “these hands can’t pull the trigger. They can’t even bend.”

“The Augusta Burn Center is going to be part of this because these hands are fractured,” he said. “I’m just bringing that to your attention. I just wanted to get that off my chest.”

Jamison was reportedly injured during a crash in October of 2023. After the incident, he was taken to the Augusta Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia.
