A man who has been accused of stealing a Ferrari, leading Miami police on a chase, and crashing into a light pole that caused a power outage, has claimed he is innocent.

According to CBS News, 28-year-old Deshawn Prendergast shared his stance on his charges after walking out of Turner Guilford Knight Correction Center when speaking to the media on Wednesday night (December 17).

"I'm innocent. I can talk to y'all. I ain't got no problem. I'm innocent. You see, I'm out right," he told reporters.

Afterwards, when asked about the charges, Prendergast called them "bullshit," along with claiming that he was never inside of a Ferrari in the first place.

Prendergast was arrested on Tuesday (December 16) after the crash. The Ferrari’s owner claimed that the car was stolen in transit while on its way to a wrap company's warehouse.

According to investigators, the vehicle was spotted by police and they tried to pull it over — with Prendergast behind the wheel. He allegedly attempted to flee before striking a police cruiser and crashing into a utility pole, causing sparks to fly in every direction. Prendergast then allegedly took off on foot and was eventually found, with injuries to his forehead, hiding in a nearby apartment building.

When asked about his injuries, Prendergast claimed they were sustained after having a fight with his girlfriend. According to the arrest report, he told police his girlfriend caught him cheating and hit him with her iPhone, causing cuts to his face.

Prendergast was charged with grand theft, fleeing and eluding the police, leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless driving. He was released on a $5,650 bond.
