King Combs has “good expectations” about when his father, Sean “Diddy” Combs, will be released from prison after he’s sentenced in October.
King spoke to Billboard about how he’s feeling about his father’s upcoming sentencing after being convicted of two federal counts of transporting women across state lines for the purpose of prostitution, and acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking charges.
“I feel good. The whole family. We feel good,” said King. “We just, you know, humbly, just waiting for the sentencing and waiting for pops to come home. We got good expectations.
So far, Diddy hasn’t been able to get out of jail and is currently placed on house arrest until his sentencing. Federal prosecutors have argued that he poses a danger to others and that because of his significant wealth, he should be considered a flight risk.
Most recently, they urged a judge to reject his latest bid for release in which his legal team proposed a $50 million bond package that would have potentially placed him on house arrest and travel restrictions.
In the motion filed about the potential release from pre-sentencing imprisonment, Diddy’s lawyers argued that his incarceration is unjust because he’s the only person in the United States to be jailed for conduct related to consensual sex under the Mann Act.
"There has literally never been a case like this one [...] Sean Combs should not be in jail for this conduct," the motion stated, arguing that the government's approach "is inconsistent with Justice Department policy," which usually targets commercial sex exploiters instead of individual participants.
Diddy’s only other hope at this point is to receive a presidential pardon from President Donald Trump, who’s been rumored to be considering the possibility. In a recent interview with Newsmax, President Trump let it be known that he’s on the fence about it.
“He was essentially, I guess, sort of half-innocent,” said Trump. “He was celebrating a victory, but I guess it wasn’t as good of a victory.”
“When I ran for office, he was very hostile,” Trump added. “It’s hard, you know? We’re human beings. And we don’t like to have things cloud our judgment, right? But when you knew someone and you were fine, and then you run for office, and he made some terrible statements. So I don’t know…it makes it more difficult to do.”
