Eight people have been convicted in the 2016 hotel robbery of Kim Kardashian during Paris Fashion Week.

On Friday (May 23), a verdict was reached in the Paris trial of the 10 suspects. Two of them were acquitted, but the other eight received sentences that ranged from three years to eight years in prison. Counting time already served, with sentences mostly or entirely suspended, none of the defendants in the case will actually return to prison.

After the verdict, Kardashian revealed in a statement to People that she was "deeply grateful to the French authorities for pursuing justice in this case."

"The crime was the most terrifying experience of my life, leaving a lasting impact on me and my family," she said. "While I’ll never forget what happened, I believe in the power of growth and accountability and pray for healing for all. I remain committed to advocating for justice, and promoting a fair legal system.”

Her attorneys, Michael Rhodes, Léonor Hennerick, and Jonathan Mattou, also released a statement, relaying that Kardashian, "appreciates the Court’s decision and once again thanks the French authorities for treating her with great respect throughout the process."

"It has been a long journey from that terrible night back in 2016 to her standing courageously in a historic Paris courtroom to confront these criminals," they added. "She looks forward to putting this tragic episode behind her, as she continues working to improve the criminal justice system on behalf of victims, the innocent, and the incarcerated seeking to redeem themselves."

Kardashian’s hotel suite was stormed by five masked men posing as police officers in 2016. They made off with at least $6 million in valuables.

During her testimony in court, Kardashian claimed that she thought she was “going to die” during the robbery. "I kept telling them that I have babies, and that I needed to go home to my babies,” she explained.

French authorities announced that they arrested the robbery suspects in 2017.
