Actor Julian McMahon has passed away at 56 years old.
The actor, who starred in movies like Fantastic Four, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, as well as series like Nip/Tuck and Charmed, died after a private battle with cancer on July 2.
His wife, Kelly McMahon, confirmed his death in a statement to Deadline.
"With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer," she said. "Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans."
"His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible," she continued. "We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for their memories."
CBS FBI franchise boss Dick Wolf released a statement about the passing of McMahon, who starred in FBI: Most Wanted. "What shocking news," said Wolf. "All of us at Wolf Entertainment are deeply saddened by Julian's passing and our condolences go out to his entire family."
Born in Sydney, Australia, on July 27, 1968, McMahon started his career as a model before transitioning into acting on the Australian soap opera, The Power, the Passion. After starring in another soap, Home and Away, he appeared in the 1992 film Wet and Wild Summer! before moving to Hollywood and beginning his American acting career.
A few years later, McMahon starred in the popular 1990s drama series Charmed and later became a series lead in Nip/Tuck, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
One of McMahon's biggest roles was playing Victor Von Doom in 2005's Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
McMahon continued to act over the years, appearing in several films like RED, Swinging Safari, and The Surfer as well as series like Hunters, The Runaways, and FBI: Most Wanted. His final role was as the Australian Prime Minister in Netflix's The Residence which was released this year. Interestingly, McMahon's father was Prime Minister of Australia from 1971 to 1972.
