Joe Biden is currently going through radiation therapy for his aggressive form of prostate cancer.

On Saturday (October 11), a spokesperson for the former US president revealed details about the new phase of treatment for his cancer which was first diagnosed in May.

"As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, President Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment," announced the spokesperson.

NBC News has reported that, according to a source, the radiation treatment is expected to last five weeks. In the previous phase of his treatment, Biden was taking a pill form of hormone medication.

News of Biden’s treatment plan for his cancer comes a month after his spokesperson revealed that he’d undergone surgery to remove cancerous cells from his skin.

In September, it was announced that he was recovering from a procedure known as Mohs surgery, which is typically the treatment of choice for most common forms of skin cancer.

Biden addressed the public about his prostate cancer diagnosis in May, sharing a statement with the public on X.

"Cancer touches us all," Biden wrote. "Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support."

A day before his announcement, Biden’s personal office broke the news to the world in an official statement.

"Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms," read the statement. "On Friday he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone."

"While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management," the statement continued. “The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians."
