Twitch streamer Emiru was sexually assaulted during the first day of TwitchCon 2025.
In footage from her meet-and-greet event on Oct. 17, Emiru is in the middle of greeting a fan when a man quickly walks up and tries to forcefully kiss her.
Emiru pushed the man away and was escorted out of the area while security pulled the man out of the area. Emiru reportedly returned afterward to complete the meet-and-greet event for her fans.
Emiru took to X to address the situation, writing: “Yesterday, the man who assaulted me was allowed to cross multiple barriers at twitchcon and even in front of another creators meet and greet to grab me and my face and try to kiss me. Fortunately he wasn't able to, but a lot of people have pointed out it could have been a lot worse!”
She continued, “I'm obviously shaken up by what happened and it's not the first time I've dealt with something like this, but to tell you honestly, I am a lot more hurt and upset by how Twitch handled it during and after the fact.”
Emiru added that “the security in the clip who reacts is my own security (it's true my favorite and usual security guard was banned for holding a stalkers arm to bring him to police, at a past Twitchcon).”
“However, there were at least 3 or 4 other Twitchcon security staff in the area who did not react and let the guy walk away, as you can see in the clip since they don't even appear in the frame LOL.”
In a statement to Mashable, Twitch responded to the incident by clarifying its commitment to the safety of its attendees.
"The safety and security of all those attending TwitchCon is our highest priority," said the spokesperson. "The behavior displayed by the individual involved in this incident was completely unacceptable and deeply upsetting.”
“We immediately removed this individual from TwitchCon premises, and they are banned indefinitely from Twitch, both online and in-person events,” the spokesperson continued. “Twitch has zero tolerance for harassment."
Emiru contradicts this statement, writing, “In Twitch's statement they said that the guy was immediately caught and detained, I'm sorry but that is a blatant lie. He was allowed to walk away from my meet and greet and I didn't hear he was caught until hours after he attacked me, and it felt like this only happened because of my manager pressing for it, not because Twitchcon staff present thought it was a big deal.”
Emiru’s serious assault moment is the second high-profile incident that she’s had with a supporter this year. Back in March, Emiru was livestreaming with streamers Cinna and Valkyrae when a man threatened to kill them.
Emiru, Cinna, and Valkyrae were in the midst of a week-long marathon stream in Los Angeles when a man, who introduced himself as Russell, came onto the stream and said, “I’ll kill you right now” when Emiru refused to give him her contact information.
Cinna spoke about the situation in a follow-up stream afterward, saying, "It sucks that a marathon that was to highlight women streamers is unfortunately ending up on one of the worst things that can happen to a female streamer. We’re very thankful it didn’t end with one of us getting seriously hurt.”
