DDG doesn't speak in what he calls his “real” voice often, but the streamer/rapper decided to give Cam Newton a glimpse of it on the Funky Friday podcast.
At around 6:35 into their conversation, DDG and Newton got into a discussion about the “real” voice that DDG swears is what he really sounds like. It’s distinctly deeper and sounds like he’s joking for the sake of attention — but he swears that it’s legit.
“This is my real voice,” DDG explained. I just don’t use it. But I will if people ask about it.”
DDG continued, explaining that he felt comfortable talking with Newton in his real voice. As he spoke, DDG’s voice dipped in and out of his “real” tone, seemingly proving to everyone that he’s not bluffing.
When asked about when he uses his real voice, DDG revealed that it’s when “I’m at home with my mom, family, camera off, shit like that.”
“I want people to think about my music and content ideas,” DDG continued. “I never had aspirations of being a voice actor.”
DDG’s “real” voice was the topic of conversation in 2024 when he broke it out during a conversation with Sexyy Red. After hearing it, Sexyy Red was shocked — then started cracking up hysterically.
"That's why I don't do it, bro," DDG responded. "That's why I don't do that shit."
In 2022, DDG opened up about his worries about his real voice, saying, "I just get real insecure, I don't like to really, like, expose myself like that. I like to stay low-key and just be who I am. … So I've be trying to like, talk regular," he said. "I feel like when I talk regular, it’s like I’m more relatable to y'all."
"It's just easier for me to grow as a musical artist, creator, and shit," he added. "I just feel like if I use my deep voice, a lot of y'all wouldn’t take me seriously, and it’d be funny. I see a lot of people laughing about it, and that’s why I don’t like really using it like that. A lot of motherfuckers take that shit like it’s a motherfuckin’ joke, but it’s just me opening up.”
