Consequence has come out with his own explanation for what he says really happened during Kanye West and Michael Che's viral confrontation after a taping of Saturday Night Live in 2018.

Now that the In Whose Name? documentary, about key moments in West’s life across several of his creative eras, has been released, a confrontation where Che accused the rapper of “selling out” the cast has become the talk of the internet. In the clip, Consequence can be seen trying to break up the situation, but what exactly happened was still unclear.

Now, Cons has shared a video giving his own explanation of how things went down.

“We wrapped, and it was 1:30 in the morning, and I had my seven-year-old son outside at night,” he began. “I was going to get my son when we had that conversation. I started to hear what's going on, because my POV was that Kanye was in front of me, Michael Che was to the left of me, and Pete Davidson was to the right of me."

“Once I understood the context of what was being said, I realized the conversation was a confrontation,” Consequence continued. “Because we were in a business setting, I tapped the gentleman on the shoulder and I said, we should reconvene this conversation for later.”

Consequence then explained that a second event happened off-camera that people didn’t see.

“And what you don’t see in the edit, which is why I don’t fuck with edits, is that he came because he was at his job and he felt away,” Consequence alleged. “So when he came back beefing, I told that n***a, ‘You either back the fuck up, or we can go outside. He chose to back the fuck up, and I gathered everybody together. I said, 'We’re leaving,' and we left.”

The origin of Che and West’s animosity stemmed from the rapper’s onstage rant about his support for President Donald Trump that night. In that same speech, West criticized the SNL cast, saying, "You can't always have, every time you have a Black subject matter like [Bill] Cosby that you have to have a Black comedian talking about him.'”

When Che approached Ye about the rant afterwards, the SNL cast member was pissed about the rapper’s Cosby comment.

"I'm the Black comedian that made a joke about Cosby," said Che. "That's fucked up. Why'd you do that to me?"

West replied by telling Che that he loved him.
