Chris Evans fans will be happy to learn that the actor is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain America.
In the first teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, which is being shown during Avatar: Fire and Ash screenings (via USA Today), Evans' Steve Rogers lives on a peaceful farm where he rides his motorcycle and has a newborn baby. While he’s never seen in his Captain America gear, he wears a blue helmet that seems reminiscent of his iconic suit.
At the end of the teaser, the words, "Steve Rogers will return for Avengers: Doomsday” appear, along with a countdown timer that expires when the film hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
Evans’ confirmed return comes a few years after reports surfaced that he was in talks to reprise his role as Captain America, following his seemingly happy ending in Avengers: Endgame.
According to Deadline’s report in 2021, Evans was in conversation to star in at least one Marvel movie with the option to return for another one later.
In 2019, Evans seemed hesitant to return to the role of Captain America in the future — but he didn’t rule out the possiility. "It’s not a hard no, but it’s not an eager yes either," Evans explained to Variety. “There are other things that I’m working on right now. I think Cap had such a tricky act to stick the landing, and I think they did a really nice job letting him complete his journey."
"If you’re going to revisit it, it can’t be a cash grab," he added. "It can’t be just because the audience wants to be excited. What are we revealing? What are we adding to the story? A lot of things would have to come together."
Avengers: Doomsday will also see the return of fellow Avengers Robert Downey Jr. (who will be playing the villain Doomsday) and Chris Hemsworth (as Thor). The massive list of returning actors for the film also includes Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Anthony Mackie, and more.
