Chevy Chase’s daughter has revealed her father has came "back from the dead" after being placed into a coma for eight days in 2021.

In the new documentary, I’m Chevy Chase, and You’re Not, the actor and comedian's daughter, Caley, opened up about his near-fatal health scare that took place during the COVID-19 pandemic. "[He] has basically come back from the dead. He had heart failure,” she said (via Variety).

Elsewhere in the documentary, Chevy’s wife, Jayni, revealed how the initial trip to the hospital went, where his health issues were discovered. "Something was wrong, and he couldn’t explain to me what was wrong," Jayne said of her husband. “So, we got to the ER. His heart stops."

"During those years he was drinking, he got cardiomyopathy — when the heart muscles get weaker, and they can’t pump as much blood out with each beat," Jayni added.

The decision was made to put him in a coma for eight days, and Caley recounted the warning she received from a doctor about the process.

"'We might not get him back. We don’t know how present he’ll be. Prepare yourselves for the worst,'" she said. "He woke up, all he could do was use his voice."

Caley’s fears that he would be different were put to rest soon after when he made a joke when a nurse came into the room to switch around some medical equipment.

"She said, 'I’m going to have to put this in here,'" Caley began. "And he said, 'That’s what she said.'"

Chase would go on to spend five weeks in the hospital because of his health issues.

I’m Chevy Chase, and You’re Not is set to premiere on New Year's Day (January 1) on CNN. The film explores Chase's iconic career, fame and complex personality, featuring interviews with family, collaborators like Goldie Hawn and Ryan Reynolds
