An 11-year-old boy in Pennsylvania was captured on camera running into a Family Dollar store with a black bear chasing after him.

CBS News spoke to Cole Frazee about the shocking surveillance footage that depicted a bear scrambling after him into a dollar store in Markleysburg.

Frazee told reporters in an interview that he’d stopped at the Family Dollar with his father to buy a few groceries. When Frazee exited the store to find out what was taking his father so long to come in, he saw the bear look at him and start to chase him.

"When it runs after me, I turn around, I run in the store, I'm screaming and stuff. The thing was like a foot and a half away from me," Frazee said. "I took a left and the bear went straight.”

Frazee ran through the aisles to escape the bear, eventually making it to a cashier who grabbed him so they could stand on top of a counter and get a better view of the animal.

When the bear walked toward the back, they took their chance to escape.

"She grabbed her coat, the keys and the phone and we ran out of there. When we ran out of there, we all got in the car," Frazee said.

Surveillance footage showed that the bear remained in the store for 10 more minutes before wandering out.

"I was relieved," Frazee said. "It was definitely a crazy experience.

According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, this time of the year is when bears are on the prowl to locate food, and it’s important to be careful and watch one's surroundings.
