Ariana Grande has clarified that she hasn’t used Botox in four years, despite what she recently joked about when accepting an award.
The singer sparked some rumors recently at the 36th annual Palm Springs International Film Awards when, as she accepted a Rising Star award on stage, she made a joke about using Botox and Juvederm, two of the leading brands of injectables for eliminating fine lines and wrinkles.
"You don't know how much it means to me," Grande said. "I've been performing since I was a child, so I never thought at the age of 31 I would be hearing the words 'rising star' again, so I wanted to start by thanking my two friends: Botox and Juvederm."
Afterward, she clarified to Entertainment Tonight that she was just joking. “Oh my gosh,” she said with a laugh. “My joke. My bit. I’m still clean. I’m clean. But when I start going again, I will let you know. I mean it.”
She explained why it was important for her to clear up any speculation about her joke.
“I really want to be transparent as a beauty founder,” she said. “As a founder of R.E.M. Beauty, I think it’s important to have transparency. I love [Botox], but I am still four years clean.”
Grande’s comments follow her speaking about dealing with society’s beauty standards last month in an interview with French YouTuber Sally alongside Cynthia Erivo.
"I have heard every version of it, of what’s wrong with me. And then you fix it, and then it’s wrong for different reasons,” Grande said, seemingly holding back tears.
“I think in today’s society, there’s a comfortability that we shouldn’t have at all, commenting on others’ looks, appearance, what they think is going on behind the scenes, or health, or how they present themselves,” she added. “From what you’re wearing to your body to your face to your everything, there’s a comfortability that people have commenting on that that I think is really dangerous, and I think it’s dangerous for all parties involved.”
