YouTube CEO Explains Why Logan Paul Is Still on Platform

YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki said some stuff about Paul in front of other people at Recode's Code Media conference Monday. "We do terminate accounts all the time," Wojcicki said during the Huntington Beach–set event, CNBCreported. "We do have a three strikes rule, and if somebody violates three times, then we terminate those accounts."

In the case of Paul, Wojcicki added, those violations have not occurred. "He hasn't done anything that would cause those three strikes," she said Monday. "So we can't just be pulling people off of our platform… They need to violate a policy and we need to have consistent behavior."

Last week, YouTube temporarily suspended ads on Paul’s channels due to his "recent pattern of behavior." The temporary suspension came in the wake of backlash inspired by a video in which Paul appears to engage in deceased rodent–tasering. Naturally, the clip was publicly blasted by PETA in a lengthy statement prior to YouTube's temporary ad suspension announcement. "This sort of content has no place on YouTube or anywhere else, as it could desensitize young people to cruelty to animals, so PETA is calling on the platform to remove it," PETA's senior VP Lisa Lange said.

"On the one side is censorship, and on the other side is too much freedom of speech," Wojcicki said when discussing matters of Paul Monday. "It's a complicated and very nuanced place where that line is drawn."
