Will Smith Says He Had 'Flashbacks' to 'I Am Legend' While Strolling Empty Streets in Zürich

Smith will soon be teaming with Michael B. Jordan for the 'I Am Legend' sequel, making the Oscar winner's remarks quite timely.

Will Smith says his weekend trip to Zürich, Switzerland gave him "I Am Legend flashbacks."

As the Bad Boys: Ride or Die box office champ and recent 360 guest explained in an Instagram video on Sunday, a travel-related interruption resulted in him having to spend the night in the region on his way elsewhere.

"A little walk through the streets of Zürich," Smith told fans while documenting his decidedly deserted stroll. "I’ve never been to Zürich before. This is the first time. Our plane couldn’t take off so we had to stay the night in Zürich. And it’s all mine. It is so quiet."

Later, a volume-obsessed bid was politely urged to stop interrupting Smith’s narration, with Smith’s Legend role inevitably getting a mention from the actor himself a little deeper into the video.

"I’m having I Am Legend flashbacks," Smith, who played virologist Robert Neville in the 2007 film with two very different endings, said. "Looking for Fred. What you doing out here, Fred?"

In the film, directed by Francis Lawrence, a mannequin befriend by Smith’s Neville is referred to by his given name, Fred.

To be clear, Smith’s Legend comparison doesn’t appear to have been intended as a diss to the folks of Zürich; quite the contrary, in fact, as the closing seconds of this weekend’s video saw the Oscar-winning actor calling the empty visit "a treat" for someone in his position.

"This is fantastic," he said, adding that he never gets to "just walk through a city like this" anymore.

Smith didn’t stick around too long. Hours later, he posted about a "night out" in Marbella, Spain for a nonprofit gala. As for the latest on the long-teased Legend sequel, which is opting for the Neville-doesn’t-die version of the 2007 film in order to bring Smith’s character back, the follow-up is set to boast Michael B. Jordan and could potentially be helmed by Steven Caple Jr. The director's past credits include Creed II with Jordan and last year's Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
