Could the faces above be the new ambassadors of Def Jam's historical relevance? Though Krush Groove purists might object to such an undertaking, Universal is reportedly eyeing a Def Jam Records biopic after presumably checking their bank accounts for the first time since Straight Outta Compton was officially ruled a gigantic financial and critical success.

The proposed project would be based on Life and Def: Sex, Drugs, Money, + God, the 2002 book co-written by Russell Simmons and Nelson George. According to Deadline, the current candidates for the roles of Simmons and Def Jam co-founder Rick Rubin are Michael B. Jordan and Jonah Hill, respectively. No deals or further details were made immediately available.

News of a possible Def Jam biopic follows weeks of similar whisperings spanning the entire universe of cinematic possibilities contained within hip-hop's story of evolution, including the recently revealedDPG 4 Life. Universal Studios served as the distributor on Straight Outta Compton, which has grossed more than $180 million worldwide in just one month of release.
