Tom Holland Will Punch Approximately Zero Bad Guys in 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'

Tom Holland says the new Spidey is pretty kid-friendly. Dude won't even be punching bad guys.

Don't expect Tom Holland to drop any elbows in next year's Spider-Man: Homecoming. In fact, the new take on Spidey will actually be a kid-friendly dude who's all about keeping the peace. In a recent cover story chat for the Hollywood Reporter, Holland cautiously opened up about stepping into the role previously held by Wolf Pack agitator Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

"You've seen the billionaire, the scientist, the soldier," Holland said Wednesday. "Now it's time to see the kid. And every decision we make on set is based off how would a kid react in this situation, so every fight scene we have is designed in a way that's almost child-friendly, so he never actually punches anyone. It's all done kind of by accident. I think the biggest difference is his youth and innocence."

WTF. Youth and innocence? Hmmm. This is kinda sounding a little too PG for my taste.

As for whether Holland has reached out to Maguire or Garfield for tips on how to avoid totally blowing it, he's not really here for that. "I actually haven't been in contact with them," Holland confirmed. "But it's so lucky because I've got five movies that I can draw from. I watched every single one years before I even got cast in this movie. And then we watched them all again and just picked little things that I thought was great and that I'd like to keep."

With any luck, director Jon Watts and company will definitely keep this:

The (second!) reboot of the Spider-Man franchise will see Holland joined by a massively stacked cast including Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Zendaya, Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Martin Starr, Hannibal Buress, and of course another cameo from co-creator Stan Lee. Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7, 2017.
