Stephen Colbert Bashes Trumpcare Creators for Refusing to Call Trumpcare 'Trumpcare'

Stephen Colbert isn't having any of this "Don't call it Trumpcare" talk.

Republicans are reportedly quite concerned about everyone calling their recently unveiled attempt at a health care plan "Trumpcare." But who gives a shit? We are definitely calling it Trumpcare, especially after watching Thursday's Late Show.

"The GOP's new health care bill cleared its first hurdle early this morning when it was passed by the House Ways and Means Committee after roughly 18 hours of debate," Stephen Colbert said Thursday. "And anyone who has spent 18 hours trying to pass something knows what you get at the end. Apparently, members were up until 4 a.m., which might explain why things got a little loopy."

Colbert noted that Trump is "pulling out all the stops" on the widely panned bill, except when it comes to the pesky task of names and nicknames. "The White House is asking, please don't call it Trumpcare," Colbert said. "Trumpcare, Trumpcare, Trumpcare. He just doesn't want you to call it Trumpcare. But when it comes to whether you should call it Trumpcare, that is one thing about which Trump care."

In fact, Colbert added, one GOP operative said "pretty much anything" with the pejorative "care" suffix on it will be viewed negatively by conservatives. "Yes, very important," Colbert said. "Conservatives don't want to be associated with caring."

The American Hospital Association, a group that probably knows a thing or two about providing quality care for Americans, came out against the American Health Care Act Trumpcare in a letter this week. "We look forward to continuing to work with the Congress and the Administration on ACA reform, but we cannot support The American Health Care Act in its current form," CEO Richard J. Pollack said.
