Not only is Shia LaBeouf currently road-tripping his way across North America with his collaborators as part of their #TAKEMEANYWHERE project. The acclaimed actor/performance artist will also soon be seen exploring the American heartland in Andrea Arnold's American Honey. The critically revered film, which bagged the Jury Prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival, stars Sasha Lane as a teenage runaway named Star and LaBeouf as door-to-door magazine salesman Jake.
"It's quite an experience to travel 12,000 miles together," director Andrea Arnold toldIndiewire in May. "They didn't know where they were going. No one would tell them. I would literally say to them, 'Pack up. We're leaving tomorrow.' And they wouldn't know where we were headed."
According to Arnold, the experience of making her first feature film in the U.S. allowed her to experience the country in a truly unique way. "I didn't really know the United States intimately," Arnold said. "I did a whole lot of road trips by myself because I needed to get to know it and make a connection with it."
LaBeouf was injured during the shoot, sustaining a pair of head and hand injuries after putting his head through a glass window during a scene. According toEntertainment Weekly, LaBeouf promptly sought medical attention and received stitches before returning to his duties.

American Honey, which also stars Riley Keough, is set for release in New York and Los Angeles Sept. 30 before expanding to more screens.
